Indonesia celebrated its 80th Independence Day, serving as a symbol of the nation’s core values beyond freedom from colonial rule. The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program was introduced, embodying a concrete form of independence in terms of nutrition. More than just a food assistance initiative, this program is an investment in the future of Indonesia, especially in the well-being and potential of its children.

Deputy for Dissemination and Media Information, Noudhy Valdryno, highlighted the significance of MBG as a crucial long-term investment for the nation. The program has provided nutritious meals to millions of schoolchildren, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers across Indonesia, aiming to enhance academic performance, physical growth, and brain development. This initiative is vital in creating a generation that aligns with Indonesia Emas 2045, the nation’s vision of prosperity.

Recognized by international organizations, the MBG program has reached eight million beneficiaries, including students from various educational levels, pregnant women, and toddlers. Experts from the National Nutrition Council noted the positive impact of MBG, such as increased Body Mass Index (BMI) among children and improvements in nutritional status, concentration, and cognitive abilities in schools.

Moreover, the program has not only transformed health and education outcomes but has also stimulated economic activity by creating job opportunities and supporting small businesses. Suratina, a grandmother working at a kitchen in Yogyakarta, expressed gratitude for the income and camaraderie gained through her involvement in the program. This initiative showcases how nutrition plays a crucial role in fostering independence and sustainable development for Indonesia’s future.
