President Prabowo Subianto reasserted Indonesia’s strong commitment to safeguarding national interests, particularly the welfare of workers, amidst growing global economic pressures and firm stances from dominant countries. Speaking at the 27th anniversary event of the National Awakening Party (PKB) on Wednesday evening at the Jakarta Convention Center, Prabowo acknowledged the challenges of economic negotiations, especially with the United States, emphasizing the importance of standing firm as the head of state.
In his address, Prabowo highlighted the turbulent global scenario and Indonesia’s efforts to maintain equilibrium as a non-aligned nation that values good relations with all countries. He noted the tough economic landscape characterized by stringent negotiations with the U.S., a reality faced not only by Indonesia but also by many other nations.
Recognizing his duty to protect Indonesian workers, particularly from the threat of massive layoffs, Prabowo underscored his approach to shield the citizens’ interests in the economic realm. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that companies have no grounds to lay off Indonesian workers.
Despite facing public scrutiny and criticism, Prabowo acknowledged the necessity of oversight and feedback, even though relentless cynicism can overshadow constructive criticism. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to policies focused on national resilience, worker protection, and fair global engagement, all while upholding Indonesia’s sovereignty and safeguarding the livelihoods of its people.
