President Prabowo Subianto, in an event held in Bentangan Village, Klaten, emphasized the importance of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives in improving the welfare of the people. He stressed the need for strict monitoring to prevent any form of abuse within the cooperatives. Referring to past mistakes, President Prabowo warned against a repeat of the ‘Chairman Profits First’ mentality that plagued cooperatives in the past. With the implementation of a new cooperative system based on technology and transparency, financial flows can now be monitored and audited in real-time. The President highlighted the role of technology in ensuring oversight and accountability, stating that all financial transactions must go through digital platforms to prevent any misconduct. He called upon village heads to actively supervise the cooperative chairpersons to ensure that the initiative serves its purpose of benefiting the community. Using a traditional metaphor, President Prabowo emphasized the strength that comes from unity, likening cooperatives to a bundle of broomsticks that form a strong tool when combined. He expressed his belief that the Merah Putih Cooperatives will revitalize Indonesia’s rural economy and decentralize the flow of resources from villages to cities. The President painted a vision of redirecting funds from the capital to the provinces and villages, thereby stimulating economic activity at the local level.
