President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia recently visited Saudi Arabia on July 2-3, 2025, to strengthen collaboration in improving services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. During his visit, the President had a meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah, where he expressed appreciation for the Saudi government’s dedication to serving pilgrims from Indonesia and around the world.
The discussions between the two leaders highlighted the close partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia in ensuring the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims. They both agreed to enhance the quality of services provided to Indonesian pilgrims in upcoming Hajj seasons, showcasing their commitment to facilitating a seamless pilgrimage experience.
Apart from focusing on Hajj-related matters, strategic agreements were made to deepen bilateral relations. The Saudi-Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, co-chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Prabowo, concentrated on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology. The bilateral trade between the two countries has been substantial, amounting to approximately USD 31.5 billion over the past five years.
Furthermore, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to encourage private sector investment, reaching around USD 27 billion. These investments are projected to generate job opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in sectors like energy, industrial development, and environmentally sustainable technology.
Both leaders underscored the significance of collaboration in the health sector, especially in meeting the medical requirements of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. They also deliberated on advancing the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries as well as enhancing the capacity of the health workforce.
On the global stage, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated their commitment to backing peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They reiterated their support for a two-state solution for Palestine and highlighted the role of international humanitarian organizations in promoting peace and stability.
Overall, the visit emphasized the strong and growing partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia in various sectors, showcasing their joint efforts to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims and deepen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
