Vincencia Toma, a resident of Radamata Village in Kota Tambulaka District, South West Sumba, has shared how the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program has positively impacted her daily life. As a pregnant mother with a four-year-old child, Vincencia mentioned the significant difference the program has made for her and her child’s eating habits. Before participating in the MBG program, they would have whatever food they could find for breakfast. However, since joining the program, Vincencia’s child now enjoys and finishes every meal provided through the program.
Vincencia, who has been receiving free meals for nine days, praised the tastiness and nutritional value of the meals provided for her child. She also highlighted how the program has helped her family in managing their food distribution throughout the day. Being nine months pregnant, Vincencia is just one of many pregnant and breastfeeding mothers benefiting from the MBG nutrition service kitchens in her village.
She commended the government’s efforts in offering free and nutritious meals to rural mothers and children, emphasizing the positive impact on ensuring children receive meals rich in protein and variety. Vincencia expressed her hope for the continuity of the program, recognizing its importance in improving community health. Managed by the Tambolaka Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), the MBG program in Southwest Sumba focuses on providing balanced nutrition to schools, health posts, and specific groups like pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers.
By using locally sourced ingredients, the program aims to address health issues and reduce stunting rates in the region. Vincencia’s story showcases the significant difference the MBG program is making in the lives of families in South West Sumba, emphasizing the program’s importance in promoting better health and nutrition within the community.
