Sumedang – Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto admitted to being amazed when he saw 60,000 people, mostly farmers and livestock breeders, attending the event ‘Guidance for Agriculture Extension Workers and Farmers and Participatory Food Estate of West Java Province to Support the Increase of National Rice and Corn Production’ in Sumedang, on Tuesday (30/1). The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense.
“Today is extraordinary, I don’t think there have been 60,000 people in one tent before,” he said.
Prabowo then congratulated the farmers for carrying out a very noble task, which is to ensure food sustainability.
“Congratulations to the big family of agriculture, you have carried out a very noble mission,” he said.
He also considered this noble task as equivalent to defending the country. Because food shortages have become a global threat faced by many countries.
“All of you in the agriculture sector are aware, we soldiers used to fight in wars. Now the battle is to secure the nation from food shortages,” he added.
Therefore, he mentioned that farmers, breeders, and fishermen are true patriots who have contributed to the nation. Prabowo is also optimistic that Indonesia can become a strong and advanced country.
“I often mention in various forums that I have great respect for farmers, breeders, fishermen, and agricultural workers. You are the true patriots. You are the unknown heroes. You are the ones who produce food for all the people of Indonesia,” he said.
“Today I am more spirited, today I am more confident, Indonesia is strong, Indonesia is advanced. God willing, we will eradicate poverty from the land of Indonesia,” he concluded. (SENOPATI)
