Magelang – Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurating the main building of the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang Regency, Central Java, on Monday (29/1).
Prabowo arrived first at the location at 9.25 WIB and was welcomed by Governor Akmil Major General R. Sidharta Wisnu Graha to review the preparations and provide instructions before the main event.
Then, at 11.00 WIB Jokowi arrived at Akmil after previously visiting Blabak Market, Magelang Regency, to monitor the prices of nine basic necessities (sembako). Jokowi, who appeared wearing a black batik with gold motifs, was greeted by Prabowo wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and a black peci.
Also seen were TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, and Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo welcoming Jokowi’s arrival at Akmil.
Then, Prabowo together with Jokowi, the commander, the police chief and the heads of the military staff and retired generals went straight into the main building to tour the building before the inauguration began.
At the end of the building inspection tour, Jokowi delivered a speech in front of the Akmil cadets. He said, the construction of this main building will support better facilities for cadet learning activities.
“The construction of this 8,068 square meter main building will encourage cadets to study even better, because the educational facilities at Akmil will become more complete, sophisticated, and modern,” said Jokowi.
“This main building can be used as a center for academic activities and military events,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prabowo said the main building is part of efforts to realize the grand vision of developing and expanding educational facilities at military education institutions.
“It is expected to play a central role in shaping the character, mentality, and intellect of future TNI leaders and national leaders,” said Prabowo.
He also hopes that the construction of new facilities will improve the quality of education for cadets. “And can increase the competitiveness of young soldiers on the international stage,” Prabowo added.
The main building of the Akmil Magelang Military Academy was built with an area of 8,306 square meters, with the first floor covering an area of 3,328 square meters, the second floor covering 2,617 square meters, and the third floor covering 2,617 square meters. Then, it also included the renovation of the dining room for 1,200 cadets. (SENOPATI)
