Jakarta – PT Pertamina has distributed Rp 3 billion in aid to Palestine through the Palestinian Embassy during the Pertamina Eco RunFest 2023 event at Istora Senayan, Jakarta. The symbolic handover of assistance was carried out by the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, to the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair Al Shun.

“Especially this year, we are providing assistance to our brothers and sisters in Palestine. Amid our joy today, we still need to pay attention to Palestine. Earlier, thank God the Palestinian Ambassador was present, and all of us expressed our condolences,” said Nicke in Jakarta on Monday (27/11/2023).

At the same time, the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair Al Shun, expressed his gratitude to Pertamina and the people of Indonesia for the support they have given to Palestine. According to Zuhair, the message of solidarity from the Indonesian people is very meaningful to Palestine.

“For us, Indonesia is a friendly country that always supports the independence of Palestine. This is what I learned from President Joko Widodo and from the people of Indonesia. All diplomatic relations and solidarity from the people have been fully given for the independence of Palestine,” said Zuhair.

In the Pertamina Eco RunFest 2023 event, apart from raising funds for Palestine, the company also promoted a sustainable lifestyle and environmental care through education on waste management. Participants were encouraged and taught to manage waste into more useful products.

Furthermore, the funds collected from Pertamina Eco RunFest 2023 will be used for mangrove planting programs. Next year, Pertamina targets to plant 4 million mangrove trees, considering that mangrove trees are able to absorb a significant amount of carbon emissions. As of September 2023, Pertamina has recorded the planting of 6 million mangrove trees.

Another sustainable program carried out by the company is through the Berdikari Energy Village, which has now reached 76 supervised villages. According to Nicke, energy sustainability is not only the responsibility of the government or companies, but the community also needs to be involved.

“For the past two years, we have been building Berdikari Energy Villages because we believe that the use of energy and sustainable energy cannot only be a government or company program,” she said.

During Pertamina Eco RunFest 2023, Pertamina provided 8 ambulances, 18 doctors, and 50 nurses. Along the route, Pertamina also provided water stations for participants to refill their drinking water bottles.

In the main area, there were various facilities, such as charger stations, kids playgrounds, games areas, lounge areas, official merchandise stores, photoboxes, and nursery rooms.

As a leading company in the energy transition field, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission target in 2060 by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). All these efforts are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) throughout Pertamina’s business and operations.
